It’s trendy for employers to offer unlimited paid time off, and for good reason: To workers, it seems like a dream. Roughly 1 in 10 companies has adopted such plans, and they’re motivated by four primary benefits, none of which directly relate to employee leave. Tap the link in our bio for more. By any measure, the FBI search of Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence was an extraordinary move — warrants aren’t normally executed at the homes of former US presidents. Even Richard Nixon received a subpoena for the Watergate tapes that helped doom his presidency. The risk for Trump is obvious. It’s yet another legal case hanging over a re-election bid in 2024 he’s poised to announce. Put simply, being president gives the kind of immunity he is sorely missing these days. But the federal probe into whether he removed classified documents from the White House will just as easily further radicalize his base. Read more at the link in our bio.

In a recent survey of employees globally, 58 percent of respondents said using emojis at work allows them to communicate more nuanced feelings with fewer words, and 55 percent said using emojis can speed up workplace communication. Two thirds of global respondents said they felt closer and more bonded in a conversation when messaging someone who understands the emoji they're using. The July survey from ed tech company Duolingo and Slack polled 9,400 hybrid workers in North America, Asia and Europe--1,000 of whom were based in the U.S. But emojis can definitely be misused. Even as many companies are now back to some form of in-person work, communication tools--like Slack--that grew even more prominent during the early part of the pandemic will likely remain a fixture. So it's good idea to mind your emoji Ps and Qs. Click our link in bio for three ways to ensure you're using emojis optimally. Five people were injured as blasts rocked a Russian air base in annexed Crimea, according to local authorities in what Moscow attributed to ammunition detonations. Local witnesses told Reuters they heard at least 12 explosions around 3:20 p.m. local time from the Saky air base near Novofedorivka on Crimea's western coast. Crimea has so far been spared the intense bombardment and artillery combat that have taken place in other areas of eastern and southern Ukraine since Feb. 24, when President Putin ordered Russian armed forces into Ukraine – including some based in the peninsula. 🔗 Read more about the situation at our link in bio

Problems with luggage in airports were 17% higher in July than in the same month of 2019, according to Sita, an aviation IT business. Passengers correctly blame lost bags on airports and airlines, which are struggling to cope with a sharp recovery in air travel. Airline ground handlers are often the first point of contact for bag routing. There are a third fewer at Heathrow compared with pre-pandemic levels. On average, only 0.4% of bags are delayed or mislaid at airports. Heathrow’s reported level of failed ‘baggage connections’ is around double that. Last month, US airline Delta mounted a rescue mission for 1,000 American suitcases stranded at Heathrow. Its Airbus A330-200 to Detroit carried luggage and nothing else. NEW: Serena Williams is reluctantly retiring from professional tennis so she can focus on growing her family. The 23-time Grand Slam champion explained her decision in a cover story in Vogue magazine, published Tuesday. She says she didn’t want to choose between her career and having more children, but at nearly 41 “something had to give.” “I don’t think it’s fair,” Williams said. “If I were a guy, I wouldn’t be writing this because I’d be out there playing and winning while my wife was doing the physical labor of expanding our family. Maybe I’d be more of a Tom Brady if I had that opportunity.” Read more at the link in our bio.

Serena Williams says she is ready to step away from tennis after winning 23 Grand Slam titles, turning her focus to having another child and her business interests. "I'm turning 41 this month, and something's got to give," Williams wrote in an essay released Tuesday by Vogue magazine. Williams, one of the greatest and most accomplished athletes in the history of her or any other sport, said she does not like the word retirement and prefers to think of this stage of her life as "evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me." #serenawilliams #tennis #grandslam
