I decided to stop all social media posts for one month. My sales weren't affected at all and now I question if I even need social media.
I run a very small Etsy shop that sells adult greeting cards. I have Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, all posting the same unique scheduled content, normally twice a week. Due to the nature of the products I sell, my social media has never been super popular. I have 222 followers currently and I get less than 10 likes per post, despite having over 700 posts. My clickthrough traffic from all social media is pretty low. At the start of August, I decided to stop posting for a month to see the impact to sales. It turns out, it made ZERO difference to my business. Compared to this time last year, my sales are up. While I'm certainly not saying my sales went up *because* of no social media, they certainly didn't go down. It's made me wonder if I was wasting time on my social media presence. Obviously for larger businesses it can work, but clearly for me, it's unecessary. I find it fascinating.
