Resources for Orange Pilling my Dad
Dad is gen x, we have recently started discussing the devaluation of the dollar and why I exchange fiat for Bitcoin to counteract this. Does anyone have any resources to help me explain the thesis to him? I sent him the Fidelity paper and plan on getting him to read The Bitcoin Standard, but some short-form explanations might be better. Thoughts? Also, he really resonates with the concept of self custody, seems to be his favorite part of it.

Has there ever been an instance of a Cold Wallets being a scam?
I know ledger users like myself were misled into thinking their seed/private key could never be transmitted from their device. This revelation led me through the rabbit hole of finding an alternative that seems safer. The one thing I think we have to do with any wallet we use that interfaces with the internet is trust that it is doing what the company tells us it is doing, and not doing what the company tells us it can't. I don't know the history of hardware wallet devices, but has there been any instances where a hardware wallet had a major security breach, shut down, or the company pulled people's funds and ran? We have plenty of examples of fraud, failure, and misappropriation from centralized exchanges, but what about wallets?

Low Fee caused Invalid Transaction. BTC not back in Core wallet yet?
I was moving 1 BTC from an old bitcoin core wallet to a cold storage and put a low fee. Didn't realize how low it was until after the transaction was made. The transaction was pending unconfirmed the past 30+days but just went to invalid. Loaded up my BTCcore wallet and funds are not back in it. Is there something else I need to do as I would like to send it again but with a higher fee. Here is my transaction ID if that helps: [https://www.blockchain.com/explorer/transactions/btc/7adf39c5a048290b0697f847246afed11509db5cac099d3a060bdb3787052936](https://www.blockchain.com/explorer/transactions/btc/7adf39c5a048290b0697f847246afed11509db5cac099d3a060bdb3787052936) Any advice would be much appreciated. I did check RBF but sadly don't have any other BTC in the wallet so not sure I can do anything about that. Thanks for any help

How have you lost Bitcoin through self custody mistakes?
I'm trying to get deeper into self custody in the light of the recent Ledger incident. So I've been looking into all sorts of exciting things such as running my own node, Electrum server, multi-sig wallets, using air gapped signing devices, even DIY devices etc. And then I thought, it would be sensible to ask for people's own stories of how they lost their Bitcoin through self custody mistakes. As Otto Von Bismark said: “Only a fool learns from his own mistakes. The wise man learns from the mistakes of others.” So, how have you messed up doing self custody in the past? Seriously though thank you for the advice and wise words!
