Sunrise in the dahlia breeding field is worth getting up early for. This is one of my breeding varieties that I nicknamed Monster Mouth because the centers often look like a little mouth. This variety is pretty much perfect in every other way: long, strong stems, beautiful coloring, it bloom abundantly, is very healthy and tall but the flower form isnā€™t perfectly consistent. My question for you is: does itā€™s little quirk rule it out or would you still grow it? If you want to try your hand at dahlia breeding we will have seed available in our November 1st seed sale. #discoveringdahlias #floretdahlias #dahlia #dahlias #seedsaving #floretseeds #growingfloret

Meet Dahlia Monster Mouth one of the first varieties I discovering on my breeding journey. This variety is nearly perfect: long, strong stems, plants get really tall, the color is exquisite, itā€™s healthy and productiveā€¦ But it has one funny flaw, sometime the centers form in an oval shape vs. a rounded shape (zoom in to see) and to me they look like tiny mouths. Thatā€™s where her nickname came from. My question for you is: does having an inconsistent flower form bother you enough that you wouldnā€™t grow her? I know itā€™s easy to say no, but I want you to really think about if that would be frustrating in the long run. Iā€™d really love to hear your thoughts! #growingfloret #discoveringdahlias #floretseeds #dahlia
