The wildfires in Canada obscured the sunlight enough yesterday for me to use just my phone to take this awesome picture! The sunspots are totally visible

This is using the 100x zoom on Galaxy s22 ultra, the wildfire smoke made the sun look very orange and dim and unsettling. I was shocked to see how much of the sunspots I could see when I used my full zoom!

The SpaceX Freedom Dragon crew ship with four Axiom Mission-2 private astronauts aboard is pictured approaching the International Space Station. Freedom, commanded by former NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson, with Pilot John Shoffner and Mission Specialists Ala Alqarni and Rayyanah Barnawi, docked to the Harmony module's space-facing port at 9:12 a.m. EDT on Monday beginning eight days of docked operations with the seven-member Expedition 69 crew. #nasa #axiom #spacex #dragon #crewdragon #freedom #ax2 #international #space #station

NASA Pistol Grip Tool

I work at a STEM outreach center and one of the coolest engineering feats to me was the Pistol Grip Tool (PGT). I couldn't find a model anywhere that kids could examine or hold so we had our own made! Can't wait to sand and paint it! This thread inspired me to teach kids about problems in space and how NASA worked to fix these issues. In relation to Earth’s location in the Milky Way, where is Andromeda?

Just speaking as if it were in line with the galactic plain. Is it on the opposite side of the galaxy from us, or is it the same side?

Auckland NZ’s Stardome observatory badly damaged in copper theft

Sadly, copper thrieves have almost entirely destroyed the dome cladding for the Stardome observatory in Auckland, New Zealand. It has been guesstimated as NZ$200,000 (US$125,000) worth of damage https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/stardome-observatory-copper-theft-vandal-thieves-cause-100000-plus-damage-to-iconic-attraction/EYGTNOVUTZCW3DGLGDDYFEOAGY/
