For my Cake day, I attended a hot yoga class for the first time. I'm a middle-aged man. My previous post was removed, due to my accidentally breaking the rules.

I've been reading lots of posts on this sub about men attending yoga classes, and seen a lot of negative comments. My experience was positive. The teacher was extremely welcoming. I didn't have any interactions with anyone in the class, but I didn't expect to. There were maybe ten women and one other man. No one acted as if I shouldn't be there as some people have described in their posts here.

Yoga is demoniac?? šŸ„“

I have been a lot into yoga lately, been rediscovering the whole practice, studying, and slowly but surely starting to practice, and while I was doing some research on the matter, somewhere on the internet I found someone saying that yoga is demoniac. šŸ¤” I mean, what makes someone get to this conclusion? I've read that some chants are actually invoking some Gods and/or demons?!?

Rule #1 of this Sub

I come here for advice and inspiration. How is it that some post and comments within this Sub are blatantly allowed to attack entire religions and groups of people. Isn't part of rule #1 to "Play Nice" and foster an environment free of judgement? Why are some of these comments allowed to stay up? Yoga changed my life and drastically contributed to recovery of injuries to my body over the years. Every practice I've ever attended was very open and understanding to all walks of life, yet here, on this Sub, hatred is allowed (and seems encouraged by other users). Extremely distasteful.

Silent Flows Where Class Does the Sun B on Their Own Without Queues

Uggh I started going to a noon yoga class and both teachers so far have done overly complicated Sun Bs and then had the class practice it 3 times without queues. I do not want to have to memorize the Sun B. It completely takes me out of my flow, leaves me unbalanced because I inevitably forget things and it's distracting when everyone in the class is in a different place in the flow. I get way behind because I'm constantly pausing to remember what's next and can't focus on my breath at all. I can maybe handle this occasionally and only once unqueued, but 3 times just ruins my practice. I feel like it's just laziness on the part of the teacher. If I was a new student, I would find this extremely intimidating as well. I get that it allows students to practice at their own pace to their own breath, but that only works if you have the sequence memorized perfectly and don't have to think about it. Am I the only one who gets annoyed by this?

Question about pose modifications

I injured my right hamstring running two weeks ago. It mostly doesnā€™t bother me on runs but there are several basic poses that I am avoiding. My question is this: do I risk anything by continuing my practice on the other side? I certainly canā€™t do pyramid at all on my right leg, however am I going to throw my practice out of balance by continuing to push on the uninjured side? More context: Iā€™m fairly intermediate and inflexible from years of running and cycling but have maintained a modest practice off and on for 15 years. The last two months Iā€™ve really gotten into high-energy vinyasa flows. Thank you in advance šŸ™šŸ¼

Seeking Volunteers for Virtual Class

Hi! I'm practicing for a audition at my local studio and I am looking to see if any of my Reddit Yogi family would like to connect to help me practice before the big day! It would either be Sundays, Mondays, and/or Wednesdays It can be groups or individuals! I just need as much practice as possible! Or if anyone is local to the Richmond, Va area we could connect in person!

Yoga retreat experience thread...

Anybody here been able to experience a yoga retreat?? What was it like? What is it like for someone who wants to expand their practice... potentially gain a teaching certification... maybe even practice in another country... any recommendations or personal experiences to share? I'd appreciate it! :)

Can it really take years to see some serious changes?

Hello everyone, Iā€™m 25-years-old and have an incredibly tight, tender and immobile body. I played sports growing up and was always inflexible, but itā€™s gotten much worse the last 4-5 years. My father has a similar build and at 60-years-old he suffers from severe chronic pain. He never did yoga or anything like that, just weight lifting. I read a comment somewhere saying that it can take years to reverse much do the damage youā€™ve done to your body, or to improve the serious weak, tight areas. Iā€™ve been doing yoga for a few months and Iā€™m noticing some mild improvements in some areas, but the worst areas (hips, groin, back) are still so tight and sore. So, is it true? If I stick to it for several years, will I really see the kinds or changes Iā€™m hoping to see? Ultimately, I just want to feel more comfortable and not have serious chronic pain issues like my father when I am older. Thanks everyone.
