Yoga by Candlelight
I was feeling a bit moody last night and decided to do some yoga in the dark. I had just a single candle lit and did my yoga in that space. Perhaps this is a regular practice for some, but it was my first time doing yoga in such an environment and I found it fascinating as the flicker of the candle flame helped me reach a deeper meditative state, and looking at my mirror as I sat there in the lotus pose, I found myself more at peace as my breath flowed in a rhythm that was in tune to that of the shadows. Just an interesting observation, and perhaps a recommendation for those who are looking for the kind of environment where they can meditate.

The Yoga of Little Kids and Birds
I had an experience today that I want to share. I was in my backyard doing yard work and the little neighbor girl around two years old pushes open their screen door and says hi, and I respond with "hello, how are you?" Then she says hi again and again, like little kids do because she wants to talk and that's all she knows how to say. So, every she says hi, I respond, "Hello, how are you? I'm fine, how are you?", in kind of a sing-song voice like you do with little kids, over and over again. The next thing I know, every bird in the neighborhood has joined in. It was really incredible and after all, isn't that how birds communicate? Most birds use the same short call, over and over. What does this have to do with yoga? I don't know. It seems rather mantra-like. What do you think?

I hate warrior and triangle
I’m pretty strong and active. But I can never feel good in warrior variations/ triangle. My thigh is always shaking down to its core and it just takes way more effort for me then it seems to take for others. I’ve come to really despise this pose. Any one relate?

Is it true that some people can't do full lotus biologically?
Hey everyone, 15 year old beginner here and I've just come across someone saying that not everyone is actually capable of full lotus no matter how much they practice. Is this true and also is there a way of telling weather you can or can't? Thanks!

Uneven balance in my legs, How to fix it?
My balance is much better when standing on my right leg, I feel stable and have a lot of control in different asanas and vinyasas but I just can’t find the same balance on my left leg. It definitely feels different, like the weight isn’t as centred as when I balance on my right. How should I approach this?

As a yoga instructor when people ask you for free sessions, what do you say?
Aren’t I worth it to charge for my services? I train hard to create custom sequences for my clients to help them on their yoga journey. Sometimes I get people asking for free first sessions. What do you say to something like this if you were in my shoes?

Asian Squats
What is the proper foot position/angle? My body prefers feet at 45 degrees. I get a decent stretch and rotation when I mobilize the joint. With feet straight ahead, hip width apart, it is more of a challenge. I can keep my heels on the ground but my outer calves are on fire, my feet want to externally rotate, my si joint is fired up and I feel a stretch in my lower back and I use my elbows to open the hips. That being said.....what do I need to strengthen to do it properly. I am newish to working/focusing on mobility. It feels amazing the progress I have made in the past year. Your tips and advice are appreciated Thanks!!

I've never tried yoga before
I have a muscle waisting condition called CMT (Charcot marrie tooth disease). I feel like my posture and tightness of my muscles are at their worst they have ever been, I even have a lump now at the back of my neck because of how bad my posture is. Is yoga recommended for these kind of conditions? If so , how would I get into it? I have no idea about the background or culture of yoga, nore do I know the different types of yoga. I have also heard there is alot of balancing involved, but one of my main symptoms of my condition is poor balance. I really want to give yoga a shot as it seems so refreshing, healthy and just such a beautiful thing to see, I feel like the community is beautiful too. How do I go about this and how do I get involved in yoga

How do you teach students to be present in the moment during a Yin Yoga class?
Teaching students to be present in the moment during a Yin Yoga class is a powerful way to deepen their practice and cultivate mindfulness. Begin by encouraging them to bring their attention to the breath, using it as an anchor to the present moment. Guide them to observe sensations in the body, thoughts, and emotions without judgment or attachment. Offer gentle reminders throughout the class to let go of distractions and fully immerse themselves in the present experience. Encourage a sense of curiosity and exploration, inviting them to observe the subtleties of each pose and the ever-changing nature of their internal landscape. By fostering a non-judgmental, accepting mindset, students can develop a profound presence that nourishes their mind, body, and soul during Yin Yoga practice.

Blisters on feet - change mat or try socks?
I’ve been doing yoga at home fairly regular for about a year and lately I’ve been doing it almost daily along with some other cardio exercise. I do this all on my mat which is a Lotus brand from Target many years ago and not super thick. I’m starting to feel like some blisters are starting to form on the bottoms of my feet from my feet rubbing on the mat during yoga and exercise. Should I try a higher quality mat, yoga socks, or both? Or does this really just take time? Thanks.
