I was feeling nostalgic so I went back to my archives to see what birds I got that I haven’t seen in a while. Then I saw this guy! A rare Yellow Crowned Bishop! 🐤👑He’s native to Africa so I have no idea how he ended up here in Southern California but it was an exciting time for us bird nerds! 😁 Have you ever seen one before and where? . . . . .

White-faced Heron. These birds amuse me often. They can walk funny pulling their head back onto their neck, they do funny things with their plumes displaying and then they get this wide eyed look of horror as they raise the feathers on their head. The last few weeks I have managed to photograph these antics. I just love birds and photography, it never gets boring, apart from the wind and rain - but that is another story for a sunny day. #whitefacedheron #heronsofinstagram #birds_of_instagram #instawildlife #naturephotography #ausgeo #visitmandurah #birdsarefunny #wildlifephotography #birdsonearth #bird_gardenical #bird_watchers_daily #bestbirds #cuteanimals #ausgeo

This day is usually filled with artificial colors on many different things, so how about some natural colors from nature instead? Tanagers are known for their brightly colored plumage which can sometimes be attributed to what they eat, but more often is just structural feather coloration. With over 200 species found throughout North and South America, you can imagine almost every color is represented. Usually, you’ll find a few different species grouped in mixed-feeding flocks. These flocks work together to scour for food, and tanagers are omnivorous, so they’ll go for berries or insects. Tanager species in order- Blue-necked Tanager, Emerald Tanager, Red-legged Honeycreeper, and Bay-headed Tanager. All birds are handled with proper permits and training. Never handle wild birds without them. For more information about research, handling, and why we don’t show how we catch birds refer to my first pinned post.
