Ernest Shackleton led a crew of 28 men into Antarctica on an incredible polar expedition. His ship, the HMS Endurance, would become stuck for months in the icy sea, eventually plunging to the bottom of the frigid waters. Shockingly, the entire crew survived despite brutal conditions, but many believed the ship would never be found. 107 years after the magnificent ship was crushed by ice near the Antarctic Peninsula, a team of modern-day explorers have announced she has been found. The gold name plate of the 144-foot wooden ship remains intact, a relic from another century frozen in time. Frank Hurley, the expedition’s photographer, was able to capture nearly 100 photos of the ship prior to its wreck. Today’s images are reminiscent of his work, showing the wreck miraculously preserved and intact despite years in frozen conditions. Go back in time with us, and discover the incredible survival story behind this expedition at the link in our bio.
